The Cayuga is a medium-sized duck breed. The mature Cayuga averages 7-8 lbs. and can obtain most of its diet from foraging when given appropriate areas to explore for food. Cayuga ducks can lay 100-150 large eggs per year that can be used for general eating and baking purposes. Early eggs are sometimes dark in color, but quickly lighten to gray and eventually they become light green tones. It is important to mention that we do not focus on breeding for egg color - we breed towards the APA standard of perfection for correct type and luscious green sheen!
The Cayuga is recognized as one of the hardiest of the domestic ducks and are easily tamed if hand raised. They are not good fliers. They are a quiet breed that is good for urban/suburban settings.
This is our fifth year with our Cayuga ducks and we just love them! We get so many compliments on their gorgeous iridescent green feathering! We have won several awards at our local shows including Champion Medium Duck, Reserve Champion Medium Duck, Champion Overall Duck, Best of Breed and Best of Variety.
